Health Initiatives staff is available to give presentations on the following content areas:
- Alcohol: This session combines elements of alcohol education and risk reduction strategies with interactive discussion and trivia. This program will also utilize live-polling about alcohol norms, so that groups/organization can better understand the alcohol norms that are within their own peer group. Finally, this program will ensure that all participants know how to help somebody in the case of an emergency.
- Mindfulness: When we’re mindful, we reduce stress, enhance performance, and gain insight and awareness through being fully present in the moment. Learn more about the benefits of mindfulness and practice some simple mindfulness exercises that you can easily incorporate into your daily routine.
- Resilience: Resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. This session will tap into skills rooted in emotional balance, learned optimism, and social connection to help build grit so participants can bounce back more easily from adversity in their lives.
- Sexual Health: Healthy sexuality is an important part of your overall health and well-being. This session introduces participants to different sexual health concepts including healthy relationships, consent, safer sex practices, contraceptive methods, and much more. Participants will actively engage with the material through a myth/fact trivia session and condom demonstrations are available by request.
- Sleep: This session teaches the importance of sleep in achieving optimal health and well-being. The engaging session will cover the benefits that sleep has on the body, how nutrition and physical activity impact sleep, as well as how students can effectively manage their time to ensure a quality night’s rest.
- Body Image and Disordered Eating: Learn more about society’s and our own influences on body image, and how it can affect self-worth, eating, and activity habits. *Trigger warning- Disordered eating diagnoses are explored and described, and resources for seeking help are provided.
- Eating on a Budget: This session explores how to eat well while managing the balance between time and money.
- Health Myths and Realities: Learn the truth about weight status, BMI, and the "obesity epidemic".
- Intuitive Eating: This session introduces the 10 principles of Intuitive Eating. Designed for individuals wishing to explore and discuss their relationship with food, dieting and/or body image.
- Nutrition 101: This session introduces the basic concepts of nutrition and wellness through debunking common nutrition myths.
- Bringing in the Bystander®: This workshop has a 90-minute or 4-hour option. Pro-social bystanders are a crucial factor in creating a campus free of sexual harassment, stalking, relationship violence, and sexual assault. This in-depth skill-building workshop explores bystander intervention research, effective methods to safely intervene in situations that could possibly cause someone harm, and strategies for supporting survivors.
- Men (re)Constructing Masculinity: This 2-hour workshop invites participants into a dynamic, thought-provoking dialogue that unpacks masculinity. Designed specifically for students, faculty, and staff who identify as men, participants will learn skills to introspectively explore personal ideas about masculinity and address gender-based violence.
- One Love: 10 Signs of Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships: This is a 60-minute interactive workshop. Maintaining healthy relationships can be challenging. While everyone does unhealthy things sometimes, we can all learn to love better by recognizing unhealthy signs and shifting to healthy behaviors.
- Survivor Support: This 60-minute presentation discusses the impact of sexual harassment, stalking, relationship violence, and sexual assault on survivors, how to provide support, the role of VOICE Advocates, and other available resources.
- VOICE General Presentation: This 60-minute presentation provides an overview of sexual harassment, stalking, relationship violence, and sexual assault. Participants will also learn about consent, bystander intervention, and survivor support resources, including VOICE.
In addition, Health Initiatives is able to create a custom experience based on your group’s unique needs and priorities. All program requests should be submitted at least two weeks in advance.
